Today the crosswinds took there tool on the field. Savage Hill did alot of surges the first two laps with numerous breakaways off the front. Not till with about 1.5 laps left did the final decsive break go. Woody and a Airborne guy were in the break and gradually increased their lead from 30 seconds to 1 min. Airborne and Savage Hill completed the shutting down of the field and kept tempo at the front. With the final sprint coming up John said he would help lead me out. We sent Jordan to early on the climb and I messed up and used my leadout man to early. I had to burn up of my leadout man with about 250 meters to go. I just punched it and looked back in the sprint and I had Ferguson (Airborne) on my wheel. I gave him a perfect lead out and the field was shattered behind us in just 250 meters. Woody did a excellent job in working in the break and I think 2nd place is his best ever in the 3/4's. Jordan helped a ton and did a very good job in covering attacks. John helped to wear out the field which helped to make Woody's move look so easy. |

Brutal. The crosswinds were killer and the surges took their toll. It was a big field again and there was a fair amount of bumping and jostling for space. For once I ended up in front of a crash instead of behind it. Can't help but think the unnamed rider who stuck his handlebars in my elbow (twice) right before the crash was a contributor. I was dropped on the back stretch on lap three. With some help a few of us got back on the Dry Creek stretch when the pace apparantly let up. Hung on for most of the next lap but got gapped again on the back stretch with several others. I hung out in the shadow of Tritech's Buzz since he was a good windblock, but he wasn't good enough to catch back on. Mostly soloed the last lap even though the pack was always in sight. Need to find reserves during those surges and need to handle the crosswinds better. |
