A great race on a great course! The climbs were just right for my style of climbing - steady, seated spinning in the 23. I wasn't sure how I'd do since I've been out of the racing scene for a couple of months, but the legs were there up until the last 50 meters of the last climb, which kicked up to about 10%. I was able to make a break early in the race to discourage others from attacking, as we had agreed to work for Woody to win. Tried to chase back before the finish, but apparently Beaner and the others in the lead group had other plans and put ass to pedal. The Orbea performed perfectly. I'm no fan of the hills, but I couldn't imagine a better bike for transferring power to the rear wheel. Even when my legs are burning, just a little extra push on the pedals gives remarkable acceleration. Can't wait to take on the Pyrannees at the end of the month! |
